| Agouti in BCI |
I just arrived on Barro Colorado Island (in the Panama
Canal) from NJ. This island is a
protected rainforest with so many plants and animals. I had not even put my suitcase in my room
when I spotted an agouti nibbling on a palm nut. Agoutis are rodents that are about 14 inches
long (about the length from my elbow to my fingertips). They need to be very aware of their surroundings
because there are several predators on this island that might find agoutis to
be quite a nice meal.
